Why study at ECU?

Courses

If you want to be part of the next generation of outstanding teachers and make a real difference to the lives of young people, our Teacher Education courses will start you on your journey.

Our experienced team are passionate about education and strive to find better ways to help you become a teacher – through pioneering research and outstanding community-based partnerships with schools.

Our courses are professionally accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. Early Childhood Studies courses have been approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority.

Master of Teaching or Master of Education?

Our School of Education offers two postgraduate courses that sound similar, but are tailored to students seeking different outcomes.

Master of Teaching

If you have a degree in an area other than education, these 2-year courses enable you to become a teacher, including completing your studies on an internship in a Western Australian school.

Master of Teaching (Secondary) - Fast Track

ECU's Master of Teaching (Secondary) can be completed in only 18 months. To take advantage of this fast-track option, you'll need to continue your studies during our winter and summer teaching periods.

Master of Education

If you're already in the education profession, this is a 1-year postgraduate degree that'll help you progress your career by expanding your knowledge in a specialist area and fine-tuning your leadership skills.

Alternatively, you can complete this course in 16 months, specialising in either Early Childhood Education or Leading Education, via our Accelerated Online mode.

Increased demand for qualified Early Childhood Teachers

There has never been a better time for Early Childhood Studies at ECU.

Changes to regulations in early learning centres means those centres must now employ a second teacher for 60+ children, creating additional demand for university-qualified early childhood teachers.

So now is an ideal time for early childhood workers to upskill with a degree from ECU. Better still, our recognition of prior learning rules means a childcare employee with an existing diploma or advanced diploma qualification can get a head start into a Bachelor's degree. This could be as much as eight units, shaving a full year off the course.

I hope I can contribute to improve the quality of English teaching in Vietnam

Many Vietnamese universities in general are not resourced sufficiently to carry out research and publish research for a wider audience. Hopefully, with what I have learned, I can make a contribution from my own research and improve the quality of English teaching in my school, as well as in Vietnam.

Encouragement from my lecturers has taught me not to underestimate myself

I chose to study at ECU after it was recommended as a specialist university by friends who had recently graduated in Education. I was able to gain entry using a Cert IV in Business.

My study experience at ECU has been very positive as my lecturers have been approachable and supportive.

Every semester of my studies has resulted in at least two weeks of practical work placement. Each placement has built upon prior knowledge, leaving me excited about my future career.
